Shah Rukh Khan is set to reprise his role as the charismatic spy in “Pathaan 2,” the sequel to the 2023 blockbuster “Pathaan.” According to reports, producer Aditya Chopra has finalized the script, with production slated to commence in early 2026.
The original “Pathaan,” directed by Siddharth Anand, marked a significant milestone in Indian cinema, becoming the first Hindi film to surpass the ₹1000 crore mark post-pandemic. The film featured Shah Rukh Khan as a RAW agent, with Deepika Padukone portraying ISI agent Rubina, and John Abraham as the antagonist. Its success not only rejuvenated the box office but also expanded Yash Raj Films’ (YRF) Spy Universe, which includes titles like “Ek Tha Tiger,” “Tiger Zinda Hai,” and “War.”
For “Pathaan 2,” the directorial role remains undecided. Siddharth Anand, who helmed the first installment, is not returning for the sequel. Speculations suggest that Aditya Chopra might take the director’s chair or collaborate with Ayan Mukerji, known for his work on “War 2.” However, no official confirmation has been made regarding the director’s identity.
Before diving into “Pathaan 2,” Shah Rukh Khan will focus on “King,” an action-packed thriller directed by Siddharth Anand. This film also stars Suhana Khan and Abhishek Bachchan, with Shah Rukh portraying a formidable don aiding Suhana’s character in a quest for vengeance. “King” is scheduled to begin filming around April or May 2025, aiming for a grand theatrical release in 2026.
“Pathaan 2” will be the eighth installment in YRF’s Spy Universe, following titles like “Ek Tha Tiger,” “Tiger Zinda Hai,” “War,” “Pathaan,” and the upcoming “Tiger 3” and “War 2.” The franchise is building momentum towards a grand finale with “Tiger vs. Pathaan,” a highly anticipated showdown between Salman Khan’s Tiger and Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan, potentially directed by Siddharth Anand.
