Expel Pakistanis, Amit Shah Directs States After India Moves to Cancel Visas

adminBy adminApril 25, 20252 Mins Read

In a significant development amid rising diplomatic tensions between India and Pakistan, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has directed all Indian states and Union Territories to initiate the immediate expulsion of Pakistani nationals residing in the country on any form of visa. The directive follows the Centre’s decision to cancel all visas granted to Pakistani citizens, citing national security concerns.

According to officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Shah chaired a high-level meeting late Wednesday, instructing state governments to compile data on all Pakistani nationals currently residing within their jurisdiction and ensure their prompt deportation. The cancellation of visas applies to all categories — including tourist, business, and medical visas — with the exception of those granted asylum or under special international obligations.

“States have been told to act swiftly and with coordination. Law enforcement agencies must ensure peaceful enforcement of the directive, and all due process must be followed while ensuring national security remains uncompromised,” a senior MHA official said.

This comes in the wake of recent cross-border incidents and escalating tensions along the Line of Control, which have led to a hardening of stance in New Delhi. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) had earlier this week announced a comprehensive review of India’s visa policy for Pakistani citizens, citing “continued support to terrorism and anti-India activities from across the border.”

Opposition leaders have criticized the move, calling it a diversion from internal issues. However, the government maintains that the step is essential to safeguard national interests.

“There will be no compromise on national security. No foreign national from a hostile country will be allowed to misuse Indian soil,” Shah said in a statement issued by his office.

It is estimated that over 1,000 Pakistani nationals are currently in India on valid visas. Authorities have already begun verifying records, with notices expected to be served in the coming days.

The Pakistani government has yet to issue an official response, but diplomatic sources indicate that Islamabad may protest the decision at international forums.

As the situation unfolds, security has been heightened in border states like Punjab, Rajasthan, and Gujarat. The Centre has also advised all foreign missions in India to cooperate in ensuring a smooth repatriation process for their nationals.
