Vivek Agnihotri Denies Jibe at Saif’s Son: “But Nobody Should Name Child Taimur”

adminBy adminAugust 22, 20252 Mins Read

Filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri has once again stirred conversations with his candid remarks, this time clarifying that he did not intend to take a personal dig at Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan’s son, Taimur.

Agnihotri, who is known for his outspoken views on cultural and social issues, recently addressed the controversy surrounding his comments. He explained that his statement was not targeted at any particular individual or family but was a reflection on the sensitivity of names in historical and cultural contexts. “I never made a personal comment on Saif Ali Khan’s son,” Agnihotri stated. “But nobody should name their child Taimur, considering the history attached to that name.”

The director was referring to the 14th-century conqueror Timur (also known as Tamerlane), infamous for his invasions and destruction across Central Asia and India. According to Agnihotri, the name carries “painful associations for millions” and should be avoided in modern times.

Saif and Kareena’s decision to name their son Taimur in 2016 had already sparked a heated debate, with sections of the public questioning the choice. While the star couple has often defended their decision by stressing that the name has a personal meaning for them, the matter continues to resurface whenever public figures weigh in.

Agnihotri further emphasized that his remarks should not be misinterpreted as a direct criticism of Bollywood actors. “It’s not about a celebrity or their family. It’s about history, memory, and respect for those who suffered under tyrants,” he said.

The filmmaker, who is currently working on his upcoming projects after the success of The Kashmir Files, has a reputation for speaking bluntly on topics related to culture and identity. His clarification suggests that while he may not hold anything against Saif Ali Khan’s family, he firmly stands by his broader perspective on the matter.
